A typical home charger installation, whats involved ?

  • The installation of your home charger will generally take between 2-4 hours and will involve fixing a cable to the outside of your property from the home consumer unit/ fuse box to the charger position. The position of the home charger and cable route will be agreed with you as part of the site survey.
  • Your local independent EV BUG expert will also need to turn the power off to your property but will give you notice of when this is likely to be, giving you plenty of time to finish those emails or make a cup of tea.
  • Next they will carry out dead tests on the newly installed cable and accessories to confirm compliance with BS7671:2022. After which they will need to complete an EIC (electrical installation certificate) which is a legal requirement for all newly installed electrical installations.
  • The engineer will then help pair your EV Charger Smartphone app to link your charger and give you a demonstration of the unit's features.
  • They will then reinstate the power and test your new home charger with you, showing you how to operate it before giving you a full handover pack with all the documentation, certificates and user guides.
  • After which you can sit back, relax and charge your electric car at home!
